CT 7.1.20 Letter to Family

July 8, 2020

Dear Resident, Family Member or Responsible Party,

We hope you had a safe and healthy fourth of July holiday.  After another round of resident testing last week, we are pleased to announce that all residents’ test results returned negative. Another round of testing is scheduled for this week, which will include any new admissions and residents who have returned from the hospital or medical visits which could have caused exposure to coronavirus while out of the building.   We are hopeful that Bayview will continue to remain COVID free.

As we mentioned in our last email, Governor Lamont ordered nursing home workers to be tested regularly for coronavirus. We were able to execute an agreement with our Care Partner to have testing done and the first round was completed last week. All employee results, except for one, were returned as negative.   This is the exact reason for the repeated testing.  It reduces potential risk of exposure to everyone who lives and works in the building. With ongoing testing, our goal is to keep all our residents and employees safe while at Bayview.

Our current numbers are:

0 COVID-19 Positive residents

0 COVID-19 pending residents

36 COVID-19 recovered residents

1 COVID-19 positive employee

Some families have inquired about increasing time outdoors. We are actively trying to get people out of their rooms while maintaining the appropriate safety measures. As we continue to maintain a COVID-free status, we will hopefully be able to reduce visitor restrictions under the guidance of the CDC and CT Department of Public Health.   Also, please find the attached letter from Mairead Painter, The State Long-Term Care Ombudsman.   Apparently, some families from other Connecticut long term care facilities had questions about staffing levels.    While Bayview maintains a staffing level above the required state levels,  other facilities in the state have been having some issues with this and are not adequately displaying their daily staffing quota.  You will always find ours at Bayview on the front door, front desk and on each unit and it is updated daily.

In other news, please take a look at our Facebook page to see all the fun activities which have been going on.  To participate in our latest Facebook contest and possibly win a $20 gift certificate to Crown Pizza, like our Facebook page and take a guess on how many lollipop’s are in the jar.  As always please stay healthy and safe.
