June 6th – Family Update
June 6, 2020
Dear Resident, Family Member or Responsible Party,
We want to inform you of some updated information. As we mentioned in our last email, on Monday, June 1st, Governor Lamont ordered nursing home workers to be tested regularly for coronavirus. We have just received word that we secured a contract with a vendor through the state. Our regular testing will begin as early as June 14th. The vendor has informed us that they can test 30 staff members at a time with a 24-hour turnaround for results.
Unfortunately, one of our routine testing swabs resulted in one positive resident. That resident has been moved to our designated COVID positive/suspected COVID unit. Please do not be alarmed by this development, all the other swabs which were done last week came back negative. We were told by DPH that once routine testing begins; we might get a few positive results from residents who have been symptom-free. However, as they recover their body continues to shed the weakened virus. It is for this reason we have made so many room changes over the last few weeks. We have created appropriate areas for COVID positive and/or suspected COVID, recovered COVID, and non-COVID. Currently, we have one COVID positive resident, 35 COVID recovered residents, and one COVID positive staff member. As soon as DPH feels it would be safe to have a gathering of our recovered residents, we plan to have a big celebration. As always, we thank you for your continued patience and support.
